I am currently recruiting on behalf of my Oldham based client for a Payroll Supervisor. The successful applicant will oversee a small team to manage and run end to end payroll for a weekly and monthly paid workforce of 1500+ employees. This role will suit somebody who has overseen all aspects of the payroll process, can work to target in a fast-paced environment and who ideally has completed or is working towards the CIPP qualification.

This will be an office-based role and all social distancing measures have been considered.

Job Description:

  • Processing payroll for 1500 paid employees (Weekly and monthly paid)
  • End to end running of payroll for the monthly paid employees
  • Administer the departments payroll returns
  • Management of pension contributions
  • Management of holiday entitlement
  • Management of all statutory payroll deductions
  • Adding new starters to the payroll system
  • Management of leaver processes and ensuring P45s have been sent out accordingly
  • Issue payroll reports to multiple business sites on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Pay all pension and life cover contributions in a timely manner
  • Ensure PAYE payments are processed in a timely manner
  • Supervising and training a small payroll team – identifying training needs and ensuring all team members are up to date with current payroll legislation
  • Liaise with HRMC, DWP and other appropriate third parties to resolve any payroll queries that may arise
  • Review processes and support process improvement to manage and better efficiencies within the department
  • Check and audit payroll to ensure all regulations are met
  • Calculating and issuing pay by electronic transfer


  • Previous experience within an end-to-end senior payroll capacity, team supervision and management exposure is highly advantageous
  • Previous experience of processing payroll for a larger business/ workforce (1500+ employees)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ideally be CIPP qualified or be working towards the CIPP qualification
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to liaise with both internal and external customers
  • Able to demonstrate good time management skills; the ability to work under pressure, accurately and meet required deadlines
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team with a flexible approach
  • Be focused upon process improvement
  • Be able to travel to the Oldham area and be comfortable in an office-based role
