I am looking for an experienced, forward thinking and adaptable payroll manager to fulfil the duties of a newly created position based in South Manchester. My client is an innovative and ever growing organisation that require somebody to manage and drive forward one of their payroll teams.

This role will manage a team of up to 20 payrollers who oversee; payroll processing, invoicing expenses and bank reconciliations for a large database of outsourced payroll clients.

The successful candidate will be comfortable in a fast paced environment, have full payroll understanding and have worked in a managerial or team leader capacity.

Job Description:

  • Overseeing the completion of daily payrolls for a number of services (CIS/ PAYE/ Umbrella/ Outsourced)
  • Complete all validations and reconciliations
  • Ensure all payroll controls are adhered to by the department – creating new controls as required
  • Completing statutory payments
  • Authorising payment advances
  • Undertaking year end projects and delegating tasks accordingly to the team
  • RTI reconciliations
  • CIS returns
  • Management of work place pension schemes
  • Monitor expenses processing procedures
  • Complete daily bank reconciliations – ensuring cash flow is well managed
  • Ensure all SLA’s and deadlines are met
  • Reporting on team KPI’s
  • Identifying training needs and required process improvements – actioning measures to resolve
  • Training of all new employees and refreshing long standing staff on process improvements
  • Completing staff 1-2-1s and appraisals
  • Ensuring continual process improvements


  • Previous payroll team leader or management experience
  • Understanding of all payroll compliance and legislation (Min 5 years payroll experience)
  • Ability to work within and constantly adapt to a fast paced and high volume environment

  • Excellent people management skills – reinforcing team strengths
  • Working towards CIPP qualification
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Sage 50 payroll experience is highly advantageous
  • CIS Experience
  • Payroll experience within the recruitment sector is HIGHLY advantageous
